Hogyan Alkalmazzunk DTF Transzfereket — Teljes Lépésről Lépésre Alkalmazási Útmutató
TL;DR: Apply DTF transfers in 7 steps — pre-press garment 3-5s at 150°C, position transfer adhesive-side down, cover with parchment, press at 150°C (302°F) for 10-15s with medium-firm pressure, wait 30s for cooling, meleg lehúzás film, optionally re-press for 5-8s.
DTF transfer application is fast and forgiving once you know the correct temperature, time, and pressure settings. This guide covers heat press application (recommended), household iron application (acceptable for hobbyists), troubleshooting, and fabric-specific adjustments.
What You Need
- DTF transfer — Order from RoyalDTF or your preferred supplier
- Heat press (recommended) or household iron
- Parchment paper or Teflon sheet
- Garment — Any fabric (cotton, polyester, blend, nylon, silk, denim, etc.)
Heat Press Application (7 Steps)
Step 1: Pre-press the Garment
Place the bare garment on the heat press. Press for 8 seconds at 150°C with medium pressure. This removes moisture, smooths fabric, and dramatically improves transfer adhesion.
Skipping this step is the #1 cause of failed DTF transfer applications.
Step 2: Position the Transfer
Place the DTF transfer with the adhesive side (printed side) facing down on the garment. The clear PET film should face up. Use a heat-resistant ruler or T-square if alignment matters.
Step 3: Cover with Parchment Paper
Lay parchment paper or a Teflon sheet over the transfer. This protects both the design and the platen from direct contact.
Step 4: Heat Press
Press at:
- Cotton / cotton blends: 150°C (302°F) for 8 seconds
- Polyester: 150°C (302°F) for 8 seconds
- Nylon: 150°C (302°F) for 10 seconds
- Silk: 150°C (302°F) for 8 seconds with low pressure
Apply medium-firm pressure (40-50 PSI / 2.8.5 bar). Use a digital pressure gauge if your press has variable pressure.
Step 5: Cool Fully
Lift the press and wait until the transfer cools to room temperature — approximately 30 seconds. Touch the film: if still warm, wait longer.
Step 6: meleg lehúzás
Peel the PET film backing slowly and smoothly. The design remains bonded to the garment. If any part lifts with the film, stop, re-cover with parchment, and re-press for 8 seconds.
Step 7: Optional Re-press
For maximum wash durability, cover the bare transfer with parchment paper and re-press for 8 seconds at the same temperature. This locks the design in for 100+ wash cycles.
Household Iron Application
If you don't own a heat press, a household iron works for occasional applications:
- Set iron to highest cotton setting (no steam).
- Place transfer on garment (adhesive side down).
- Cover with parchment paper.
- Apply firm pressure with the iron, moving continuously across the transfer for 8 seconds.
- Work in overlapping 10-second sections to ensure even heat.
- Wait until fully cool (~60 seconds with iron — longer than press).
- meleg lehúzás slowly.
Iron-applied DTF transfers typically last 20-30 washes vs 90+ for heat-press applied. For best results, use a heat press or have a professional apply your transfers.
Fabric-Specific Adjustments
100% Cotton
Standard settings: 150°C (302°F), 8 seconds, medium-firm pressure. Most forgiving fabric.
100% Polyester
Lower temperature (150°C (302°F)) to avoid dye migration. Use a Teflon cover sheet. For sublimation-printed polyester, allow extra cooling time.
Cotton-Polyester Blends
Standard cotton settings work for most blends (50/50, 60/40, 80/20). For high-polyester blends (>60%), reduce to 150°C.
Nylon
Low temperature (150°C), shorter time (10 seconds), low pressure. Test on scrap first — some nylons are temperature-sensitive.
Silk
Lowest temperature (150°C), shortest time (8 seconds), light pressure with cover sheet. Risk of fabric damage is real — test always.
Denim
Standard cotton settings. Pre-press is critical (denim retains moisture).
Leather / Faux Leather
Lower temperature (150°C (302°F)), shorter time (8 seconds). Use cover sheet always.
Troubleshooting
Transfer Not Sticking
Cause: Temperature too low or pressure insufficient.
Fix: Verify temperature with a digital thermometer (many presses run cooler than displayed). Increase pressure. Re-press the failed transfer.
Cracking After First Wash
Cause: Under-pressed.
Fix: Re-press with parchment cover for 8 seconds. Going forward, use the full 8 second press time + optional re-press.
Film Lifting Off Design
Cause: Peeled too hot.
Fix: Wait full 30 seconds until cool. RoyalDTF transfers are hot peel only.
Fading Colors
Cause: Incorrect temperature or wash conditions.
Fix: Wash garments inside-out at 150°C (302°F). Avoid bleach. Tumble dry low or air dry.
Care Instructions for Customers
To maximize DTF transfer longevity, recommend customers:
- Wait 24 hours after application before first wash
- Turn garment inside-out before washing
- Wash at 150°C (302°F) maximum
- Use gentle detergent (no bleach)
- Tumble dry low or air dry
- Iron inside-out only — never direct iron contact with transfer
